German Horch 1a Multi-purpose vehicle with towed 20mm Flak 38 AntiAircraft Gun, Africa Corps, 1941. Note that the gun is meant to be disengaged from the trailer for firing because the trailer's fenders prevent it from training no more than several degrees to the right or left. The 'rusted steel plate' covering the Horch's back seats is apparently meant to be a base on which to set and level the gun and some of HobbyMaster's promotional pictures show the gun mounted on the plate while in place on the Horch. The model gun itself supposely can be removed from the trailer to do this but the instructions are sketchy and we were not able to effectively detach a gun from its trailer for this purpose - the pieces are quite delicate and it seemed that if subjected to just the slightest amount of extra pressure they might break. In reality, it seems that the most likely use of the gun with the steel plate would be for soldier's to man-handle this off of the Horch and then position the trailer over it to disengage the gun on top of the plate. By way of contrast. man-handling the gun to position it atop the Horch would seem to be next-to-impossible. Have seen actual war footage of a Horch with a Flak 38 gun mounted in its rear but the rear seats were removed and the gun appears to have been fixed in place. FOR ANYONE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HOW TO INTERPRET A MODEL'S SCALE, THE MODEL IS 4 1/2 INCHES LONG - NOT COUNTING THE LENGTH OF THE GUN BARREL THAT EXTENDS BEYOND ITS TRAILER. THIS IS EQUIVALENT TO DIVIDING THE LENGTH OF THE REAL VEHICLE IN INCHES BY 72.
